Drive to/from Milford Sound
March 1st/2nd, 2009

We got picked up at The Divide (one of the trail heads on the Routeburn Track) and driven to Milford Sound on March 1st. It had been raining, however we stopped several times to look at the stunning scenery around us - waterfalls, cliffs, glaciers, rainforest, rivers, etc.! Then on March 2nd after our sea kayaking adventure we got taken back to Queenstown via Te Anau. The scenery for the drive back was pretty incredible too, and there were a couple stops for photos and just to take it all in!

Glaciers visible through the mist/cloud.

Looking up a rock face with literally hundreds of little waterfalls.

Entrance to the Homer Tunnel - it is 1km long and goes through the solid granite. Apparently it's the safest place to be during an earthquake!

A tree fern viewed from above.

Lush forest with lots of tree ferns!

More peaks rise out of the mist and cloud.

Mike mocking the "Do Not Feed the Kea" sign! T his is on our return trip when it's not raining.

Rock face with glacier on the top and waterfalls coming down it. This is just ouside the Te Anau side of the Homer Tunnel.

Closeup of the glacier sitting on top of the rock wall.

Lush landscape thanks to all the rainfall!
